When I picture the Pacific Northwest, I picture Seattle, tall pine trees, forests lining mountains, and snow and rain misting the state. I think about the coastline as a fishing industry, and as a port for ships sailing to Alaska. I never gave much thought to the very northernmost coastline as a resort destination. Proves how little I knew.

Approaching the resort after winding through forest-green hilly roads definitely evoked that “wow” effect that grand estates do when you first glimpse them at the end of a long, end-of-the-road trail. We couldn’t wait to get out of the car and explore both inside and out.
The rooms inside were rustic and comfortable refuge from the quickly-changing temperatures of the PNW. But I think most people who choose a resort like this are eager to get outside and enjoy the beauty of the coastline along the edge of the U.S.

We could actually see the U.S. border crossing with Canada in the distance. I always love the chance to really visualize the spot on the map where I’m standing, and here I was in another spot of the world I’d never imagined finding myself. But when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at the chance. I joined a group going there for a team-building and enjoyed the company, the Semiahmoo resort, and of course, the sunsets. Stunning!

Much like other waterside resorts I’ve been to, Semiahmoo had bicycles available for cyclists to enjoy, a full treatment spa on the premises, a golf course, bar, restaurants, a library, gift shop, and plenty of places to walk and congregate together outside. It was a beautiful place to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Sitting outside with a glass of wine and watching the sun dip down into the Pacific Ocean was a welcome escape. Now I understand why people fall in love with the Pacific Northwest.
Have you been to a seaside resort? What did you like about it?
The Pacific Northwest has always been one of my favorite go-to locations! Peggy and I are starting a trip in April that will take us over three months to travel from Big Sur to Olympic National Park.
Oh, that sounds heavenly! I can’t wait to see your pictures and live vicariously through your travels.
We will start across the country in a couple of weeks and start our adventure in the Big Sur/Carmichael/Monterey area in April! 🙂
