In case you can’t read this, it says:
It may look beautiful, but we’re actually in Hell! Wish you were here!
Love,
Jo
I miss those puppies and Coyote.
My mother sent this postcard to her sister. As you can see by the postmark, we really were in Hell in the Cayman Islands, where everyone has to send the obligatory ‘Wish you were here’ postcard from the tiny post office there. But what’s more telling is that my mother’s idea of Hell is actually written on the postcard: being without her dogs (Coyote and the puppies).
If you were in Hell, who would you send a postcard to?
I did think it was literal when I first read it. As in, you go to the Cayman Islands, and it rains the entire time. I didn’t notice the postmark. That would tickle my funny bone, and I would have to send a postcard to each of my family members, and several blogger friends, too. 🙂
Naturally! That’s the whole point of Hell, Grand Cayman Island. I don’t think there’s anything else there. 🙂
I love going through my Grandma and Mom’s old photos of their travels in the 1950s. They captured a time that will never reappear. Going to go break out the box of photos now. :o)
Photos would be great to look at! My mom only has one or two. They rarely got to take a vacation. But I hear stories about the couple of time she and a girlfriend went to Florida.
Wow, I’m not sure if that is a good or bad idea to name a place like that. Is that maybe what Chris Rea sang about on his song “Road to Hell” or maybe Meatloaf’s “Bat out of Hell”?
LOL. This made me laugh because it would take about 2 minutes to get out of Hell. It’s not much more than a post office and general store. Probably not songworthy, but I could be wrong. 🙂
Haha I remember “Hell” from many years ago when I went on a Carribean cruise, and sent my own ‘Wish you were here’ postcard to my best friend. Though I totally feel your mom’s sentiments… I often joke about how I miss my two daschunds more than I miss my bf sometimes haha!
She has started travelling with her dogs now, when she can.
To my father in law perhaps, everyone else is on Facetime! 😀
There is a place called ‘Hell’??? If you lived here in my adopted city, for one summer, even the real one would seem like a hill station 🙂
I actually sent one to my ex-husband, but with a twist. I wrote: For all those times you told me to go to Hell, well, now I did. 🙂
ha ha ha..that was wicked 🙂
He loved it. Showed it to all his friends. 🙂
There’s a place called Hel in Poland as well, great place for surfing!
Surfing in Hel. Sounds fantastic! 🙂
My college friends and I went to the Cayman Islands for spring break our senior year. I remember being a tad hungover when we went out to Hell which seemed appropriate.
LOL. You probably could have stayed in that day and called it Hell, too. 😉
