I’ve Eaten Like the President – Twice!

Unbeknownst to me beforehand, I’ve followed in the footsteps of Barack Obama twice now when I’ve looked for a place to eat during my travels. The first time was in Ottawa at a bakery in the Byward Market. Here, we sampled maple-leaf sugar cookies that Obama had on his visit there. The bakery has since named them “Obama Cookies” and we left with a stack to share.

Then, in the Condado district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, we did it again. We headed down to the Kasalta deli on the recommendation of our cab driver to get a decent breakfast at a local place. As we waited for our coffee and eggs, there on the wall was Obama’s picture again. He’d beaten us to the spot!

I have three trips coming up this summer. What are the odds this will happen again? I suppose anything is possible, since it seems like Obama and I run in the same circles. Ha!

How often do you dine where a famous person has been?

  1. At least you are following Obama’s path. From what I’ve heard (my cousin is married to a White House staff member) W’s diet was appalling. 🙂

  2. There’s a donut place I go to here in CT that was supposedly President Clinton’s favorite. They didn’t rename anything after him, though. Those Obama cookies look way more exciting.

      • That’s Coffee An’s in Westport – though I believe the best donuts around are actually at Neil’s in Yalesville. And I like to think of myself as something of an expert on CT donuts. Because that lets me tell people I only eat them so often because I’m doing research.

  3. You make me envious….you get to eat not only delicious food but got to share a yummy piece if history. I bet your Summer will be full of awesome surprises. Have a great weekend.

  4. I have eaten in places where Jackie O did, but twice in Obama’s footsteps is pretty cool. Should we get your autograph, just in case 😀
