A trip to Geneva-on-the-Lake should include a stay (or at least a visit) at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. This family-friendly Lodge has it all: comfortable rooms with balcony views of Lake Erie, a restaurant and bar open for all meals, indoor and outdoor pools, free bike rentals, and other amusements inside and out.
Plus, the Lodge offers great packages, such as the Sip & Zip package my mother and I enjoyed during our stay. On the first day, we took a touring van to five different wineries.
This region of northeastern Ohio is known as Ohio’s wine country and most of the wineries we visited included vineyards that we could wander through as well.
Our stops began with Kocisek Winery where we couldn’t resist their special frozen blend of red and white wine. A wine slushie! It was perfect for a hot summer day.
We sampled wines at several more wineries including one in a former church and another that had live entertainment and a full menu.
Our excursion also included a trip to the Red Eagle Distillery where my mother and I enjoyed a delicious concoction of bourbon, cream, peanut butter and chocolate. The drink was called a Peanut Butter Cup, and just like with a Reese’s package, we couldn’t stop with just one cup. We each had two.
The second part of our Sip & Zip Tour was the ziplining canopy tour I wrote about in a previous post. As much fun as it would probably be to zipline after sipping wine, it’s not the smartest idea and isn’t how The Lodge sets up the Sip & Zip package. Wisely, we sipped wine on Day 1 and zipped through the sky on Day 2. This wasn’t the only package offered by The Lodge. We also had the opportunity to take a tour of the 19 covered bridges in the area, or join one of the seasonal package tours. Let’s just say, something is always happening at the Lodge, so check their website before you go.
I loved having a place to call “home” at the end of our days wandering through Geneva-on-the-Lake. Because at the end of a day zipping through the canopy, playing on the Lake, or biking through wine country, having a comfortable place to unwind is the best luxury of all.
Which appeals to you more? Sipping or Zipping?
